Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends

Coldplay's fourth studio album has been released. Have been eagerly anticipating esp since it is largely produced by the genius Brian Eno. I love this album and like all their music it once again speaks to me at this moment in my life. For me they never fail to deliver... have seen them live and they don't disappoint...hating on Colplay is a sort of sport for some..as my one son said 'they're good, its just so easy to make fun of them'..which opened up our usual spirited and engaged sharing of thoughts....The track

'Death and All His Friends'

No I don't wanna battle from beginning to end
I don't want a cycle of recycled revenge
I don't wanna follow Death and all his friends

No I don't wanna battle from beginning to end
I don't want a cycle of recycled revenge
I don't wanna follow Death and all of his friends

This is a great way to end the album (hidden track notwithstanding) I think it's the strongest cut..the chant is only repeated twice at the end...would have loved to have it go on forever but as is they just leave you wanting more......which is never a bad thing~right?

Some first impressions, here. I've listened to it a few times on the PATH commute, but I haven't really been able to give it my "full" attention yet without any distractions.

Of course I love the two singles that I heard before I got the full album, "Violet Hill" and "Viva La Vida." I would say they are arguably the most mainstream-friendly tracks on the album, which is not to take away from how succinctly they are constructed.

Songs that immediately popped out at me upon my first listen: Strawberry Swing, Life in Technicolor (what a great instrumental!), and Lovers in Japan.

The track you listed here, "Death and All His Friends," isn't so immediately accessible. Still, I think that adds to its appeal. It kind of creeps up onto you, that refrain. It, like the rest of the album, is definitely more daring musically than their previous work, I think.

I can't wait to listen to the album some more so I can appreciate some of the other tracks.
