Ken's Kitchen

Overseen by John Donato, Ken's Kitchen serves 800 to 1,000 meals every Thursday and 300 meals on wheels. Our meals consist of soup, meat and potatoes, vegetables and dessert--also bread and cake to take home. This is all free of charge--the program is run on donations and our volunteers-70 to 80 people.

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,

You Are a Trifle

No doubt, you have many intricate layers. But deep down, you're a little squishy.

My friend Walt likes NIN...here's to staying young at 80 yrs...

so i am at work on tuesday and my friend Walt stops by and asks me if we have any NIN cd's...then he tells me how he just saw them in concert--he and his wife Carol are friends with the lead guitarist's parents--apparently his daughter babysat guitarist robin finck back in the day and Walt and Carol were invited to the concert as family..told to 'wear black' so they did...walking in they were greeted by ticket takers with 'you two must be parents of the band members' ... they had a great time, hung out backstage....so cheers to you Walt, my 80 yrs young friend....and make sure you listen to 'still'.

I would like to watch you sleeping,
which may not happen.
I would like to watch you,
sleeping. I would like to sleep
with you, to enter
your sleep as its smooth dark wave
slides over my head

and walk with you through that lucent
wavering forest of bluegreen leaves
with its watery sun & three moons
towards the cave where you must descend,
towards your worst fear

I would like to give you the silver
branch, the small white flower, the one
word that will protect you
from the grief at the center
of your dream, from the grief
at the center. I would like to follow
you up the long stairway
again & become
the boat that would row you back
carefully, a flame
in two cupped hands
to where your body lies
beside me, and you enter
it as easily as breathing in

I would like to be the air
that inhabits you for a moment
only. I would like to be that unnoticed
& that necessary.

Bruce Springsteen & E-Street Band July 27 Concert - Back in the USA

Springsteen and his E Street Band rocked through a 30-song set, playing several classic tunes, including the opening song "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out." They also jammed out favorites like "Badlands," "Born to Run," "Dancin' in the Dark," and more recent hits like "The Rising." Most agree, it was the best ever. The Boss was in great form, rocking until 11:50PM.

Set List 7/27/08-
Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out Radio Nowhere... Lonesome Day... Adam Raised A Cain...Spirit In The Night...Summertime Blues....Brilliant Disguise....Atlantic City....Growin' Up....Janey Don't You Lose Heart......I'll Work For Your Love....Youngstown...Murder Incorporated....The Promised Land...Livin' In The Future...Mary's Place....Working On The Highway...Tunnel Of Love...The Rising....Last To Die...Long Walk Home...Badlands...Girls In Their Summer Clothes....Jungleland...Born To Run....Bobby Jean....Dancing In The Dark....American Land.....Rosalita

'CONTROL' now on dvd...watch it..

Ian Curtis
...then listen to joy division

A British film about the life and death of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, starring a first-time actor sam riley...directed by anton corbijn...the screenplay is based on the book 'touching from a distance' by deborah curtis who also co-produced.standout performance by riley as the tortured curtis. samantha morton gives her usual stellar performance. all live joy division songs are performed by the actors. 'love will tear us apart' and 'atmosphere' are featured by joy division. the credits roll with a cover of 'shadowplay' by the killers.just a superb biopic....filmed in black and white with shades of gray...we see curtis's melancholic tortured soul.... he stands a man alone.

Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends

Coldplay's fourth studio album has been released. Have been eagerly anticipating esp since it is largely produced by the genius Brian Eno. I love this album and like all their music it once again speaks to me at this moment in my life. For me they never fail to deliver... have seen them live and they don't disappoint...hating on Colplay is a sort of sport for some..as my one son said 'they're good, its just so easy to make fun of them'..which opened up our usual spirited and engaged sharing of thoughts....The track

'Death and All His Friends'

No I don't wanna battle from beginning to end
I don't want a cycle of recycled revenge
I don't wanna follow Death and all his friends

No I don't wanna battle from beginning to end
I don't want a cycle of recycled revenge
I don't wanna follow Death and all of his friends

This is a great way to end the album (hidden track notwithstanding) I think it's the strongest cut..the chant is only repeated twice at the end...would have loved to have it go on forever but as is they just leave you wanting more......which is never a bad thing~right?

Tim Russert 1950-2008 RIP

Saddened and shocked by the sudden passing of one of my heroes. A great man, loving son, husband and father. Too ironic for the Author of 'Big Russ and Me' to leave us Father's Day weekend. I remember seeing him on a talking head show sharing his love for his father and his son, Luke. One of my favorites stories of Tim's was when his son had read the book "Big Russ" about his grandfather. Tim and Big Russ share the same initials - TJR, as Tim was a junior. Sometime after Luke had read the book he returned home from Boston College for the weekend. Tim heard his wife Maureen yell to him "he has a TATTOO!" Tim went running to see what was going on, reminding Luke that he had promised that he wouldn't get a tattoo. Luke then responded that after he had read the book, he decided to get a tattoo to honor his dad and grandfather. So he pulled up his shirt and there were the initials TJR tattooed on his side. Luke then said he always wanted to have his dad and grandfather "on his side". Tim choked up at that point and said "What could I say?"

Only the good die young.

You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

A view on various RSS feeds

I tried all three search tools and my favorite feed so far is Topix, closely followed by Technorati, which accesses most of my interests...and offers a host of information on Indie Flicks.
Syndic8 hooked me up with my main man Eli Manning and The Giants GO BLUE!

RSS FEEDS

I like how all my favorite places to visit online are at the touch of my fingers on one page.
What a great way for Libraries to organize research tools for our customers, bloglines can keep information all in one spot.
This is a great tool, one workers and customers alike will benefit from!

The easiest one for me to do is play.
The hardest for me to do is taking the time to learn the new technology.
